I took the IRS Registered Tax Preparer exam on July 2 and passed. The RTRP exam has a passing score range of 350 to 500. They do not give the tax pro the exact score.

The RTRP exam is part of the three piece process of the IRS effort to regulate the unenrolled tax professionals (those preparers who are not CPAs or enrolled agents). The other two pieces are the annual registration to maintain the preparer ID number and the required 15 credits of continuing professional education courses. Within a few weeks, after the IRS completes some technicalities. I can officially use RTRP after my name!
